Before We Get Too Busy

In just a few hours, it will be Thanksgiving Day. There are only 32 days until Christmas and 38 days until we close the book on 2016. From now until the end of the year, …

Hi Ho, Hi Ho, Off To LA I Go

Submitted by on February 22, 2010 – 6:36 pmNo Comment |

As I’m sure you’ve noticed, I haven’t been making as many fashion-related posts lately;  and in case you’re wondering, here’s why…

Within the next few years, we’d like to sell our townhouse, but a larger home (think white picket fence and large front porch) and have a baby.  Unfortunately, like many things in life, these things milestones will take money.  So, Husband and I decided that 2010 would a be “saving” year for us. And as any fashionista knows, saving is a wardrobe’s worst enemy.

From now until the end of the year, my closet and I have $50 a month to work with.  (Believe me. A little piece of me died inside when I heard that number too.) But wait! There is a loophole! Every month, Husband (whose financial management skills are to be commended) puts a certain amount of money in our “expense account.”  This money covers groceries, gas and social events for the month.  If, at the end of the month, we have not spent all of the money in our “expense account”, we can split the remainder between the two of us to buy whatever we want.

At the end of March, I’ll be making a trip to Los Angeles to visit my friend Mary and attend a John Mayer concert.  (Yes, I did find his Playboy and Rolling Stone interviews to be morally repugnant, but I’m still a fan of his music.) I’m also planning to do some shopping (and hopefully catch up with the lovely Emma James in person) while I’m down there and the money that I have to spend is entirely up to me.  And I quote (straight from the mouth of Husband): “If you can save it, you can spend it.”

Clearly the gauntlet has been laid.

So, in the hopes that I can, in fact, save some serious money (I’m shooting for $200-300), here are a few things I’m considering purchasing. Let me know your thoughts and feel free to throw new suggestions my way!

BCBG Silk Cocktail Dress $238

Sunny Isle Skirt, Kate Spade $250

Vince Camuto Caylo Heels $130

Or, I could *gasp* save a bit more money and purchase this.

Can’t wait to hear your thoughts!
