Bachelorette Style: Fashion Faux Pas
It’s no secret that I love reality television. Why? Because life is too real to watch shows that make you cry (ahem, Grey’s Anatomy) and reality television anything but mirrors my own life. I’ve been watching The Bachelor/Bachelorette for countless years now. Some seasons are better than others (Jillian Harris, you were ah-mazing!) and unfortunately, it doesn’t look like Ashley Herbert is going to top my list of all-time-faves.
The one thing I will say for Ashley is that she has a banging body (Can I say that if I’m not a dude?); but she clearly knows it. This season has been full of bare midriffs and butt-hugging shorts. While each episode this season has had its share of fashion faux pas, some of last night’s outfits (on both Ashley and the bachelors) could have been featured on ”What Not to Wear.”
1.) White wedge sandals- In and of themselves, the sandals Ashley wore at the
beginning of last night’s show weren’t bad (though there is something about the genre in general that screams stripper) but Ashley paired them with fire engine red shorts and a midriff-baring shirt. If you’re going to wear anything white and tall on your feet, I suggest pairing them with lighter colored, longer bottoms like white bell bottoms or tan, straight-leg capris.
2.) Over-over-over sized rings- I’m all for a flashy bauble, but the turquoise ring Ashley wore during her date with Constantine looked like it was eating her right hand. General rule of thumb (no pun intended): If your ring is made for one finger but covers two, forget about it.
3.) Slider sandals- I don’t even know what the proper term for these shoes are, but they are a throw-back to my eighth grade year that should have stayed in the nineties–not made its way onto television in 2011. Gentlemen, unless you’re an avid camper who needs a pair of sandals for the outhouse showers, discard the Adidas soccer slides. Get some Rainbows or even better, some Sperry’s, or go home.
4.) Sockless loafers- The ankle cleavage at last night’s cocktail reception was out of control. I know it was hot in Thailand, guys, but dress shoes should ALWAYS be accompanied by their best buddy, Mr. Sock. Always.
Fortunately, last night’s episode ended well, style-wise. If anyone knows where I can find that gorgeous, glittery tan-striped dress Ashley was wearing at the cocktail reception, let me know ASAP!
