‘Tis So Sweet

Submitted by on January 30, 2012 – 2:30 pm6 Comments |

Lately, I’ve seen the cracks in everything.  During  a weekend filled with fun, distracting events, I couldn’t help but think about the heaviness of life.  At a charity event with friends, I was reminded of how much poverty there is in the world and just how many children need a home.  When I purchased a necklace (a portion of the proceeds went to benefit orphaned children in Ethiopia), I felt guilty because I was able to afford such a luxury while others–even people I know and love–were not.

On a date night with Hubs, I was very aware of the fact that so many women don’t have a husband to take them out on dates–or at least one who wants to. When I went running on the beach, I was overcome by the greatness of my Creator and wept because so many people I know are unaware of the love of Christ.  At church, as I cradled a friend’s healthy newborn so that my friend could sit and enjoy the sermon in peace, I thought of all the babies (some I am aware of, many I am not) who have been born lately with birth defects and I worried that my own future child would be stricken with a defect of his/her own.

And then I heard the song. The song that my mother used to sing to me as a child.  The song that has carried me through difficult times in my life when I didn’t understand what God was doing.  The song that reminds me that no matter what my circumstances or the circumstances of those around me, I can trust the one who made me, this world and all things in it. May the song comfort you no matter your situation or the state of your heart and mind:

Tis So Sweet To Trust In Jesus

 ’Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to take Him at His Word;
Just to rest upon His promise,
And to know, “Thus saith the Lord!”

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!
How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er;
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
Oh, for grace to trust Him more!
