In just a few hours, it will be Thanksgiving Day. There are only 32 days until Christmas and 38 days until we close the book on 2016. From now until the end of the year, …

Hello World

Submitted by on March 25, 2012 – 9:42 pmNo Comment |

When I started jennprentice.com, my intention was to use it to share things that didn’t quite fit with The Style Geek brand.  If I used The Style Geek for business purposes–focusing solely on technology and style related content–this blog could show more of my personal side.  But these days, businesses are personal. The people behind the company are the  brand.

Additionally, my new responsibilities over at Haberdash brought the grand total of blogs I’m supposed to be posting on each week up to four. If you’re a writer, you know that’s about three blogs too many.  Needless to say, I’ve been feeling the need to simplify things–to bring my personal and professional life under one umbrella–and  jennprentice.com seems like the perfect place to do that.  Still, I’ve been holding on to The Style Geek because, well, it’s a catchy name for a blog and a business and it represents so much of my life and my journey of personal discovery since moving to California.

As I’ve already mentioned, my life before relocating to the west coast was a bit of a mess. I was struggling to overcome an eating disorder, get over two bad breakups and figure out exactly what it was I wanted to be when I grew up.  Rather than take the baggage I’d accumulated in North Carolina with me to California, however, I decided to leave it behind and start over once I moved out west.  Don’t get me wrong, it was a process. In fact,  much of what you’ve read on The Style Geek was me processing life out loud. But by God’s grace, almost four years later, I’m proud to say that I know who I am, what I’m doing with my life and what messages I want to share with the world.  Posting exclusively on jennprentice.com is simply my Hello World moment.

You’re probably wondering what’s going to become of The Style Geek? For now, it will remain in tact.  I’ve put a message up at the top of every page telling people I’m now blogging only on jennprentice.com and I’ve moved some of my favorite posts from The Style Geek over to this blog.  Eventually, I’ll do a 301 redirect from The Style Geek to jennprentice.com so that anytime someone tries to navigate to The Style Geek, they will automatically be taken here.  For those of you who have liked The Style Geek on Facebook, keep following that page! I will continue to use it to post content from this blog, Haberdash and Experts Exchange.

As for what you can expect to see on jennprentice.com, here’s a preview:

Style– Much like I have been doing on The Style Geek, I’ll continue to share outfit posts and other fashion related tidbits here.

Geek-Whether it’s a new social site or a smartphone app I can’t live without, I’ll be posting about the ways that technology influences our interpersonal relationships and makes our lives easier–for better or for worse.

Life– If it’s on my heart, making me sad or putting a smile on my face, I’ll be sharing it in the life section.

Mentor– From tips for encouraging one another as we walk through life together to ways to grow your business through marketing, branding and public relations, I’ll be helping individuals and businesses learn and grow in the mentor section.

Read– I read at least one book per month, and I’d love for you to read along with me.  Think of this section as an online book club!

Above all, I hope the things I write on jennprentice.com align with the blog’s theme and my new mission statement: Live Counterculturally.  If you’re tired of doing life by the world’s standards, you might just want to make it your mission statement too.
